What Is A Child Worth? Responding To Sexual Abuse in Our Community With Rachael Denhollander

Please join us for a candid look at child sexual abuse in our community. Our guest speaker will be author, attorney and abuse prevention advocate Rachael Denhollander, the first to publicly raise her voice against former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar.

According to the CDC, about one in four girls and one in thirteen boys in the United States experience child sexual abuse. Abuse occurs at every socioeconomic level, across ethnic and cultural lines, within all religions, and at all levels of education. Still, a majority of abuse is preventable through learning and awareness.

This event, for teens and up, is intended to bring attention to abuse in our community, look at the link between abuse and mental health challenges, and encourage people to feel comfortable seeking help and support if needed.

Rachael Denhollander became known internationally in 2016 as the first woman to pursue criminal charges and speak publicly against USA Gymnastics’ team doctor Larry Nassar, one of the most prolific sexual abusers in recorded history. In 2019 she published an autobiographical account of her experience entitled, “What is a Girl Worth?: My Story of Breaking the Silence and Exposing the Truth about Larry Nassar and USA Gymnastics.”
