This course offers an in-depth study of the Hebrew Bible’s poetic and
philosophical books—Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs, Lamentations and
Ecclesiastes. These texts, rich in literary artistry

and theological depth, reflect the spectrum of human experience: joy and
sorrow, love and loss, wisdom and mystery. Students will explore how ancient
Israel grappled with questions of suffering,

divine justice, the nature of love and the pursuit of meaning.
