Join Rabbi Kantor for an engaging and thought-provoking course that delves
into the complex issues surrounding Jewish self-defense throughout history.
This course will provide participants with a comprehensive examination of the
ethical, legal, and historical aspects of self-defense in the Jewish
tradition, exploring a continuum of threats faced by the Jewish people—ranging
from biblical adversaries to modern-day challenges posed by groups such as
Hamas. What are we, as Jews, permitted to do in the name of self-defense? What
obligations do we have to protect others and ourselves and what actions are
prohibited in Jewish law? We will discuss various eras of Jewish history,
highlighting significant movements and events such as the Holocaust, the
Jewish Defense League, and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
