**One-Hundred Years Later – The Johnson-Reed Immigration Act **
The Johnson-Reed Act, passed by Congress in 1924, effectively ended unimpeded
Jewish immigration to America for the first time ever. In this series, we
consider the ways that Jewish immigration pre-1924 worked to the benefit of
American society as much as it provided new opportunities for Jews; and the
trans-formative impact that this xenophobia-driven legislation had on Jews
both in America and in Europe, and on American society itself.
