OU Anti-Semitism Event

October 28 @ 8:00 AM5:00 PM EDT

Oakland University is excited to present an impactful evening dedicated to film, dialogue, and reflection on pivotal social issues. The event kicks off in the afternoon with “Be the Witness,” an immersive virtual reality project that vividly recounts the 2023 tragedy in southern Israel. Following this, we will do an OU screening of the acclaimed film “My Name is Sara,”.  In addition, several courses will use the film in their classwork. To kick off the formal event, executive producer Mickey Shapiro and co-producer Stephen D. Smith will have an insightful Q&A session about the film projects and their broader context.

The evening will continue with a compelling discussion led by Noa Tishby, New York Times best-selling author and former Israel Special Envoy for Combating Antisemitism and Delegitimization. Tishby will address the pressing issue of rising anti-Jewish hate and its broader societal impacts. The night will conclude with a book signing, offering a chance to engage further with the themes presented.

This event provides a unique opportunity for the Oakland University community to delve into powerful narratives and essential conversations about prejudice, identity, and social justice. Attendees will have the chance to connect with filmmakers and thought leaders, deepening their understanding of these crucial issues.
