For almost as long as there have been Jewish children in Detroit, there have been Jewish day schools. Spanning Temple Beth El (1850s) to Frankel Jewish Academy (2000), this talk considers the rich range of offerings for a Jewish education, including Yeshiva Beth Yehuda (which began as an after-school program in 1914), United Hebrew Schools (formed in 1920 by the merger of the Division Street and Wilkins Street Talmud Torahs), Hillel Day School (1958), and the short lived but very interesting Yavneh Academy.
