SUMMARY:Evolving Jewish Identity in America
DESCRIPTION:As America celebrates its 250th birthday\, Jews have reason both to celebrateand to reflect. No Jewish community in history has enjoyed the freedom\,opportunity\, acceptance\, and influence that American Jews have experiencedover the past two and a half centuries. Yet as we read in the Torah\, \n“וְאַתֶּם תִּהְיוּ לִי… גּוֹי קָדוֹשׁ / You shall be to Me… a holy nation”(Exodus 19:6)\, \nwe are challenged to ask: what happens when the drive for belonging meets thecall to be distinct? \n“Unless you can play baseball\, you’ll never get to be a rabbi in America\,”taught Solomon Schechter—a striking claim that Judaism in America must learnto speak the language of the culture around it. In this two-part summerseries\, Rabbi Shalom Kantor will lead us in exploring the Jewish journey intoAmerican life through immigration\, baseball\, culture\, community\, and covenant.Together we will wrestle honestly with a difficult question: in our pursuit ofacceptance\, what have we gained\, what have we lost\, and what decisions will weneed to make to build a Judaism that can thrive in America without losing whatmakes it unique? \nOrganized by: Congregation B’nai Moshe \nView event on Jlive: https://jlive.app/events/16255

SUMMARY:Indigo Dyed Shibori Challah Covers
DESCRIPTION:**Fiber on the Edge** \n**Exhibit Dates: **July 26 – September 2\, 2026 \n**Opening Reception: **Sunday\, July 26\, 1 – 4 PM \n**Artist Talk:** Sunday\, August 30\, 2 PM \nIndigo is one of the oldest dyes in human history\, prized across civilizationsfor its deep\, soulful\, living blues. Join us for an exciting\, hands-onafternoon where ancient global craft meets modern Jewish tradition. \nIn this creative workshop\, we will explore the beautiful concept of _hiddurmitzvah_ —beautifying the commandment—by transforming raw fabric into anheirloom-quality\, one-of-a-kind Challah cover for your Shabbat table. \nUsing **Shibori** \, the exquisite Japanese art of resist-dyeing\, you willlearn how to fold\, bind\, twist\, and clamp fabric to unlock breathtakinggeometric patterns. As we dip our textiles into a rich\, organic indigo vat\,you’ll watch the magic of oxidation turn your fabric from bright green tobrilliant blue right before your eyes. \nWe will gather to chat about the rich history of indigo\, the significance ofthe Challah cover\, and the profound\, mystical symbolism of the color blue(_Tekhelet_) in Jewish tradition. \nYou’ll leave not just with a gorgeous piece of functional ritual art\, but witha deeper connection to the vibrant colors of our heritage. \nRegistration required. \n**Exhibit Sponsors** : \nManat Foundation\, Prudence Bernstein Trust\, Nancy Wanchik\, Esther Hankin \nFor more on exhibits and events\, visit[charachgallery.org](https://charachgallery.org/). \n**NEW!
