Come learn about the critically important work of SUCHO (Saving Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Online). This international initiative, composed of more than 1,500 volunteers from across the globe, is working furiously to digitize and preserve Ukrainian cultural heritage, including Jewish collections (from prewar musical archives, to 400-year-old Galitzian manuscripts, to texts from presses in Volhynia and Bukovina). Since the start of the invasion of Ukraine, SUCHO has web-archived more than 5,000 websites and 50 terabytes of data from Ukrainian cultural institutions–to prevent the materials from being lost or destroyed. SUCHO coordinators Quinn Dombrowski and Anna E. Kijas will be on hand to tell us more about their work and how we can support it. Note: JHSM will donate 72% of ticket sales to SUCHO to continue saving these historical treasures. Can’t join us live? This program will be recorded and distributed to program registrants.
